StartOS Mempool instance with Bull Bitcoin wallet

Hello.
Anyone using the Bull Bitcoin mobile wallet and have their own Start9 server running your own instance of Mempool? The wallet app has recently been updated to allow a Custom Mempool Server to be entered rather than using their default server.
I would like to use the StartOS instance I have running on my own server through the mobile wallet, but the Mempool URL creates a .local address that doesn’t seem to work when entered in Bull wallet.
Has anyone got the two working together? Is there something that needs to be done with the syntax of the address to get it to work in Bull wallet?

What does this mean?

Entering the Mempool .local URL (that the StartOS Mempool service directs to) into the Bull Wallet field for Custom Mempool Server produces an error. It doesn’t accept the Mempool URL. Upon further troubleshooting I’ve also found the .local address doesn’t load in the browser on the mobile phone either (even while on my home LAN), so there might be more than one thing going on here.

The error should include some words that say what the error is, and provide a clue as to where to start working out what the problem is. Hopefully the devs don’t just display “Error!”, otherwise… who knows.

The .local not loading on your phone in a normal browser means you’d need to go through the setup for you phone, or turn off anything blocking LAN access, and check whether other services are accessible.

There’s the error after pasting in the .local URL that Mempool on my StartOS box launches. Note again that I can only get to that .local address from my PC at home; it isn’t working from my phone browser.

A .local address would only work when you are connected to your home network… so while at home. It won’t work away from home.

If you see this same error while at home, connected to your wifi, and at the same time you can’t access anything on your network from the phone, there are some potential reasons…

  • you never set this up (Start9 | Device Guides)
  • you’re using an old version of android
  • you’re running a VPN client that blocks your access to your own network

Thanks for the guidance StuPleb.
I hadn’t added the StartOS server certificate to my Android phone. I’ve done that now and rebooted it. My version of Android is up to date and patched. All VPNs are off and I’ve got Orbot setup as Power User Mode, as per the Start9 device guide you referenced.

The .local address for Mempool is still not accessible through my Android phone while I’m at home on my home LAN. What would be better is if the Start9 Mempool service URL launched an onion address that would be accessible at home or anywhere. My Android phone is currently working with a .onion link for my customer Electrum server in a couple mobile Wallet apps.

Update: I found the .onion link in the Mempool service settings. Unfortunately it is not the URL shortcut that appears on the main “Installed Services” page (which points to the .local URL) but at least I know where I can get the onion link when I need it, and can access it from my phone when not at home.
