Hello everyone, I am new to the world of mini PC’s and Bitcoin.
I purchased a Beelink mini S13 w/N150 and 16GB DDR4 and installed a 2TB M.2 SATA SSD.
I am able to get to the point where it asks me to remove the USB and to wait for StartOS to restart. Unfortunately, nothing happens even after leaving it overnight.
I have tried both the non-free.iso and the other .iso file as well as trying all four USB slots on the mini PC thinking one of them might work. But no luck on that either.
Please let me know if anyone has experienced this before and how I may be able to diagnose the issue.
StartOS is designed for, and only officially tested on servers we sell. However, because it’s based on Debian, the non-free image works on most x86_64 systems, but not all. No one has reported getting StartOS to work on that machine. If you do, please be sure to mention how you did it here:
oh, I see that the Beelink S12 is on the list of confirmed machines that work so I figured the S13 will work as well. Of course, I had ordered the S13 before even knowing that there are machines that don’t work with the StartOS.
I highly doubt I will figure out how to get it running since I have no knowledge in programming or the like, I guess that was a waste of 190€
I know of at least one other person working on the same issue. Maybe you guys can collaborate:
Let me clarify the headless method you might try. IF the issue is that the non-free image of StartOS is missing the necessary proprietary graphics drivers needed, you can bypass it by not connecting a monitor. First you need to make sure the bios options are set to boot the USB drive as primary, and the internal drive as the second. You’ll need to also look for a “stop on keyboard error” option, and disable it. Once you’ve applied these options, and saved. Turn off the machine. To test, leave the monitor connected, but disconnect the mouse, and keyboard. If you have things right it will boot into StartOS, but give you the same error. Next, turn off the machine. Disconnect the monitor. Make sure the S13 is plugged in, via ethernet to the same router or switch as one of your other machines. Avoid using wireless on the other machine if you can. Turn on the S13, and wait for about 5 min. You might hear a series of beeps. If so, the final sound that means the server is ready, some people describe as a Mario getting a coin sound. If you hear nothing, that’s fine, just wait more than 5 miin. Then on the other machine, that’s connected to the same router or switch, open a browser and enter start.local into the address bar at the top, and press enter on the keyboard. If that works, then you are here:
It WORKED! thank you so much. so the Beelink mini S13 N150 can be officially placed on the Hardware list that work.
I followed you steps by making the Internal drive second on the boot. I could not find the “stop on keyboard error” but that was no issue thankfully.
What I did differently was to not have the USB drive (that has the .iso file) inserted in the mini pc when I turned it off and power it back on. I pressed refresh a couple time on the start.local and it miraculously worked.
I just went through the steps of root certificates and soon I will start downloading knots and setting it up.
That’s terrific to hear! After you’ve got it up and running with a couple of services, with no other problems, would you be so kind as to post the exact steps for others, as a response to the Known Good Hardware topic I linked above. We’ll add it to the list, and link to your explanation.
Thank you in advanced for participating in our community, and helping others become more sovereign!
Yes of course! I have already started to write what I did for future reference. but to tell you the truth, I am not 100% what actually got it going but I will try so other can benefit.
I am very grateful that Start9 developers even offer this for free for people to DL.
