"The file type is not recognizable." error when importing Root CA on Windows 10

When following the instructions for importing the Root CA on Windows 10 I get the error
“The file type is not recognizable. Select another file.”

Do you know what the issue is or if there are other files formats I can download from the Root CA? From reading online it seem Windows 10 needs a .pfx file not the .crt file.

There’s currently no known issue with the guide found here:
https://docs.start9.com/0.3.5.x/device-guides/windows/ca-windows

On which step did you run into this error?

Thats the document I have been following. On step 10 after browsing and selecting my certificate file and clicking next, I get that error. It wont accept the file at all.

From my research online (not an expert in this by any means), apparently Windows 10 needs a .pfx by combining .crt with .key files (links below). I have gotten this to work following these steps on my old Windows 10 laptop a year ago, but its not working on my new one right now.

.crt is a standard forward supported by Windows 10 and earlier. The PFX format you refer to is only for batching certificates.

I’d suggest downloading the certificate again From System → Root CA and restarting the process.

Got it to work! Last 2 times I emailed the cert from my old laptop and downloaded it to my new one. This time I did it all from the new laptop and it worked. Im assuming thats the change that mattered, didnt think it would make a difference.

Do you know if there will be an update enabling Jellyfin to work on anyones computer/app? So that I could create user accounts with fam members to use the self hosted streamer service? Tnx!

You can already run Jellyfin on any computer on your network with individual accounts. You just need to share the .local address with them.

If you mean other parts of the world, this can be done, albeit slowly, with the Tor address, but will be much easier and faster with the next version of StartOS with clearnet support.
