Trouble keeping StartOS online on 2014 Mac Pro

I am somewhat of a cypherpunk noob, but have managed to flash a small drive and got StartOS running on my old 2014 Macbook Pro. After the initial startup code ran it opened Firefox and StartOS on local host page. I have left it running and plugged into LAN in another room I have synched about 40% of a bitcoin node in 24 hours. However I just checked on the download from my new laptop and I couldn’t connect to my server. So I went a clicked on my 2014 Mac to wake it and I was connected again and the node download resumed.

I guess where I’m confused is how do I keep my old Mac from sleeping and going offline? After I flashed StartOS my whole operating systems interface is gone, I can’t minimize Firefox, control screen brightness or system settings, etc. Maybe because I am now technically running Linux? I’m not sure. Any info on how I can keep it online 24/7 would be helpful. Thanks guys!

I too am a little confused by this. The sleep function on a mac is handled by MacOS. StartOS does not have a sleep function since it’s a server OS meant to run 24/7. It does however turn off the display after a period of inactivity. Here’s what I’d try. Make sure you know your server’s adjective-noun.local address. You can find it under System>About. Shutdown your server:

System>Shutdown

Then turn on your server, and close the lid immediately, before it even boots. Access the server from a browser on another machine only. My suspicion is, kiosk mode might be locking up somehow. By closing the lid immediately, you may be able to prevent kiosk mode from ever running, eliminating the problem. Let us know how it goes.
