New Server Pure - transferred functional Raspberry Pi setup with connection of external HD to Server Pure via USB, went through migration of data from drive overnight, found new DNS provided IP, may have had to restart Server Pure, got welcome screen, but stuck at login as it will not accept the previously provided password. I did use the password from the old RPi setup during the migration step.
I went to router and deleted the old IP DHCP reservation and added the new one prior to this. The old RPi is not on the network. I have disconnected the original HD data drive from the Server Pure.
I do recall having similar problems when attempting to set up a DIY machine a year ago, and actually went back to the RPi then.
Thoughts?
Cool. That gives me something to try. Currently taking Server Pure offline, and replacing with old RPi system and attempt to change password there then attempt migration then.
If unable to do this will try reflashing Server Pure (per the guide) and repeating migration with a simple password initially.
I went through the reflash process of the Server Pure, and rebooted. I am unable to connect with the http://start.local in the browser on a network attached computer. Attempted with two different machines and refreshed browser tabs. I did NOT have the original USB data disk plugged in to the Server Pure.
Directly connecting to the Server Pure via keyboard/mouse and video it is asking for a password in the builtin browser, and neither new or old passwords work with the direct connection.
As a result I am unable to complete the password reset.
When I reverted to the RPi I changed the password, since I could not log in to the Server Pure after setup on the old password. I’m trying to transfer the RPi install to a new Server Pure.
Okay. Gotcha. The password doesn’t transfer. You set the password for the new server when you set it up. Sounds like something went wrong there. If the transfer was successful, you can do as Rick suggested; go through the password reset process. Let’s focus on that. Please try that again. Follow the guide slowly, and carefully. Let me know what step specifically you get stuck on, if any.
As far as I can tell, this flashing the StartOS procedure essentially resets the Server Pure to its initial state and restarts the initialization process in order to go through the password reset. I will have to have the old USB drive installed on the Server Pure after the flashing and as the initialization process is started. I assume it will be again copied to the internal drive on the Server Pure. I’m just making sure I understand what’s going on.
Currently, I have the old RPI connected and working through indexing electrs. I have confirmed the functionality of the old password. I had to restore from backup all the apps besides Bitcoin Core (lnd, core lightning, proxy, RTL) as they were giving errors as per the system logs. I also purged apps I wasn’t using as I thought they were likely to be constraining the memory requirements.
Nowhere in the password rest guide does it talk about connecting the USB drive from an old server. That’s not how this works. You would select the “Use Existing Drive” recovery option. You were fine until you turned on the old server again. At this point you’re in an inconsistent state between the old and new server. If you restored from backup lnd on the old server, all your channels are now closed. If your old server has been turned on since you transferred your system to the new server, any lightning channels might be in a potentially inconsistent state that could result in loss of all funds in the channels. Based on this, I think this is where we are. The password reset is no longer an option. Once you have the old server operating properly again, you’ll need to start over with the system transfer instructions.
Thanks. That’s why I repeated back what I was planning as I was unsure if I understood correctly. I don’t think I connected the old USB the first time I attempted the password reset (not sure), and I understood the reversion to backups would likely close the channels.
I appreciate your time and attention and will restart with the system transfer instructions. Thanks!
Now getting Tor connectivity issues.
“Tor stuck bootstrapping at 95%” in system logs. Persists through reboot.
Will restart my router/switch as networking seems to be an issue at times.
Which server are we talking about here? Tor is run by volunteers around the world, who’s nodes are often under attack. Sometimes with Tor, it’s just a matter of trying again later.
