Upgraded to Start9 0.4, smooth experience, question about legacy services

Hi everyone,

I just upgraded to Start9 0.4 and wanted to share that I was honestly surprised by how well the upgrade went. It was very straightforward, and the whole process felt smooth.

Really like the new UI

I have one practical question:

After the upgrade, my Bitcoin service and Electrs service are now showing as “legacy”. I see that there is an option to upgrade them to the current versions.

Is there any known issue with continuing to run the legacy Bitcoin/Electrs services on 0.4, or is upgrading strongly recommended?

Also, if upgrading is recommended, are there any practical things to watch out for before doing it, such as downtime, reindexing, resyncing, or app compatibility?

One related question: if I am currently running Bitcoin Core, is moving to Bitcoin Knots through Start9 a straightforward and transparent migration, is it basically a app swap?

Would appreciate any practical advice from people who have already upgraded.

Thanks.

I’m not sure why you’d want to run outdated versions of services that aren’t designed for v040 on v040. This seems unwise. Do you have some kind of reasoning for this? The idea is that you’d immediately upgrade, we’ve never seen someone not want to.

The practical things to watch out for are the same as on 0351. When you update a service it is offline while you are updating. Services have dependencies and StartOS will tell you what those are.

There are no apps on StartOS, those are found on your phone. If you want to swap from one version of Bitcoin to the other, you’d simply click a single button to do so. There is no migration or resyncing involved. There may be configuration changes that the system will prompt you for.

Essentially what I’m trying to say is that you’re running all this on StartOS. It is designed for you to press a single green button each time you want to do something. It will then simply do it and just work.
