V0.4 ENOENT: no such file or directory

Hello,

Start9 OS user for many years. Appreciate the support. Running v0.4 beta 5, with StartTunnel (VPS) activated and all services running fine. Running Datum and mining via hashrate purchase (thank you Matthew Krater/Bitcoin University), also working fine. No errors (until today).

Am not sure when this happened, or why, but attempted to open a new LN Channel via RTL interface (last night), and was waiting for channel to open. In parallel, I created a backup (cuz why not). After the backup was done (although I have no idea if they are related), I noticed that the LN Channel was now open, and I noticed the following errors in Core Lightning (“Unexpected end of JSON input”) and Mempool (“ENOENT: no such file or directory, open ‘/media/startos/subcontainers/OW5QBEXI4RSEINFQ4SGVDNVHS3M5WEQP/mnt/bitcoind/.cookie’“). No errors visible in the Dashboard for RTL or any other Services.

Also, not sure if related, but even though I now have 1 LN Channel open, when I try to send sats to Core Lightning wallet via LN, I see the incoming transaction but nothing is deposited.

Would really appreciate help in figuring this out please.

Snippets of just part of one line of logs aren’t enough to go on. We’d need to see more. If you’re a Start9 customer, you’re in the wrong place, support is found at start9.me .

Regarding the Core Lightning, “nothing is deposited” isn’t lightning parlance, so it’s hard to say what you mean. Certainly if you turn off Core Lightning while it was opening a channel by performing a backup (something you’d do after you open a channel so that you have something to back up) this could cause an issue. And if Core Lightning is not currently running, you definitely won’t be able to make lightning payments to it, and if you opened the channel and didn’t move funds, you wouldn’t be able to receive to it anyway.

OK, understood, better details. Start9 OS customer (ie no Start9 hardware). Running V0.4 beta 5.

I have the following errors:

Core Lightning, in Health Check → Synced, “Unexpected end of JSON input”, and
Mempool, in Health Check → Synced, “ENOENT: no such file or directory, open ‘/media/startos/subcontainers/OW5QBEXI4RSEINFQ4SGVDNVHS3M5WEQP/mnt/bitcoind/.cookie’“.
No other errors visible in Dashboard.

I’m not seeing what I need to see there. Anything better in the OS Logs?

I’d also bet Mempool is failing because of the CLN dependency, but that should be clear to see in the mempool dashboard page. I bet `OW5QBEXI4RSEINFQ4SGVDNVHS3M5WEQP`is your CLN. Fixing CLN should make Mempool not complain.

I uninstalled Mempool and reinstalled it, no Health Check errors. Core Lightning error (“Unexpected end of JSON input”) remains. Here is OS log extract:

Yeah I’m indifferent to Mempool, it’ll work when CLN works. To get CLN to work, we’d need an error.
