Maybe I don’t know how to do it, but on Mempool Space I can’t see the transactions of an xpub (or a zpub). I copy it into the search bar and it doesn’t return any results. Is this the expected behavior? I understand that if I did it on the website (mempool.space) it would work, but I don’t want to try it for privacy reasons. What does work on the Startos mempool is searching for a receiving address. Am I doing something wrong or is it supposed to be like this?
I don’t think mempool.space has support for finding transactions using an xpub/zpub, for good reasons! Your xpub should be kept private, anyone knowing your xpub can view your entire wallet history (and future! since it can generate new addresses from it).
If you want to view the history of your wallet, without putting in your seed words, you can use the xpub/zpub to create a ‘watch-only’ wallet in your wallet software (Sparrow, BlueWallet and Blockstream Green support this for example). This allows to view your entire wallet and create new receive addresses (but not sign actual transactions).
Ah, thank you! I thought that in mempool you could see the total and the transactions of a public address; I thought it was a standard feature, but I see it’s not. In fact, I already use a ‘watch only’ wallet for that purpose. My interest in finding the total funds in mempool arose from the intention of explaining to someone else ‘where the bitcoins are.’ I wanted to show him a receiving address and the total of a wallet in the explorer…
thank you very much!
I guess the developers don’t want to encourage bad practices of sharing private information on a public website. While wallet software is more focused on your privacy, mempool.space is mostly a public service, which happens to allow for self-hosting.
