successfully installed on non oled Steamdeck 512Gb internal nvme as direct replacement for steamos , touchscreen works, screen is rotated 90 degrees but displays okay , ony issue though is screen stays active all the time . I will get a lenovo Tiny and setup StartOS there and put the steamdeck back to normal but may experiment with still running StartOS on mocroSD on steamdeck afterwards
successfully installed on upgraded Mac Mini A1283 with 8GB ram and a 1TB SSD internal hard drive with a 2TB External USB Samsung HD
Heads up on the potential fail DIY list…
I tried installing latest version (0.3.5.1) on a MacBook Pro (A1706 - late 2016) and consistently hit this error:
RPC ERROR: Disk Management Error mkfs.vfat: unable to open /dev/nvme0n1p1: No such file or directory
Not sure if there is a potential workaround, but am moving on to other old hardware.
Removed the 2TB external drive and reinstalled as the old hardware could not handle the rewrites, so I’m going to do my best with the internal 1TB SSD internal drive.
This is specific to the disk and partition tables. I’d get a linux live boot running, pre-nuke and pre-format, then start over. There are other threads that talk about this.
Hi everyone, here were the steps to getting my Beelink Mini S13 N150 up and running.
- Make sure in the BIOS, set Boot Option #1 to USB Device and Boot Option #2 to Internal drive
- Must run it “headless” (disconnect HDMI cable) or else you will get an error
- Follow instruction from Start9
- Go to start.local in your browser
- Install StartOS
- Remove USB thumb drive and press REBOOT - Remove USB thumb drive (only have the power and ethernet cable plugged in)
- Restart your Mini PC
- Wait 5 minutes, then go to start.local in your browser and refresh the page
- This should get you to the StartOS Setup
I hope this helps anyone with a similar pc!

Successful install after some configuration
Nuc 14 essential barebones
N150
Crucial DDR5 16gb
Samsung Evo 990 2tb
-Nonfree version
-HDMI and monitor disconnected
Ethernet to usb converter was needed. I believe to bypass Realtek ethernet drivers, i used TP-link UE306
-Secure boot i beleive was disabled
-Bypass driver option ticked

Added to the list. Thank you!
Successfully installed StartOS and syncing almost over :
Dell Optiplex 7040
CPU Core i7-6700 3.4 GHz |
SSD Samsung 870 EVO 4 TiB
32 GiB of RAM
Refer to my post for fixing the boot issue where it doesn’t recognize the bootloader after installation : SOS = just can't install StartOS on Optiplex 7040 - systematic "No Bootable Devices found" error - #8 by BlissHodl
Just done setup on Beelink Mini PC SER5 AMD Risen 5500U. All went very well indeed.
Got it working on Acemagic Vista Mini V1 ( ACEMAGIC Vista Mini V1 Mini PC, Twin Lake N150(up to 3.6GHz), 16GB DDR4 RAM). I replaced the 500MB SSD with a new Crucial P3 NVMe 2T SSD formatted to ext4.
It won’t boot with the monitor so you need to go headless. Then look for the IP address in your router and use that to access it from the browser.
Once Start OS was installed the V! hums along nicely.
Is a Dell Inspiron 3847 or Vostro 220 capable of running Start9?
Give it a try, and let us know!
Succesfully installed StartOS 0.3.5.1-nonfree on a chinese MiniPc:
FIREBAT AK2 PLUS MiniPC
Intel N150
16GB RAM
2TB SATA SSD GOLDENFIR (purchased separately - main hd)
512GB NVME SSD (removed during the installation, but it should not be a problem if you set the desired hard drive as the main one - in this case the 2TB SSD - in the BIOS, instead of removing the other hard drive).
The installation was carried entirely from other computer, since the setup would only run if the MiniPC’s only connections were the power supply, and the RJ45 internet connector. Installation does not work with any other peripherical connected. Also, secure boot was disabled in the BIOS.
Successful installed Start9 on Dell Vostro 7620
Got start 9 working on g3 plus gmktec barebones.
Used crucial 16 gig ram and crucial 2tb drive.
Only thing is no sound via the non free iso.
Not a huge issue but no sound for the normal people might be an issue.
AOOSTAR N1 Pro N150 mini PC. I had to use paulscode’s process (on the Start9 community forum) to get it to boot after the installation. All good after that.
Mini PC LIVA Z2 with N4100, 4 GB, eMMC 64 GB, SSD 7 TB.
Installed & successfully runs Start9OS 0.3.5.1 with Knots for 5 weeks to sync.
The sync was rather slow with swappiness=60 (default), a bit better with swappiness=10 but still slower than under Umbrel 1.4.2 the same HW (full 100% sync was finished within 6 days).
Why? No idea !? (Tor?)
After upgrading RAM to 8GB Knots sync became seemingly faster and runs for 3 weeks, but still rather slow at 83% and many time outs (direct LAN cable to router, 600/63 mbps).
Look forward to Start9OS 0.4 with great hope !!!
Thanks to the Start9OS team !
Bosgame Mini PC E3, Intel Twin Lake N150 16GB DDR4 RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD - Upgraded SSD to new 4TB for more storage, then booted from USB stick flashed w/StartOS. Installed StartOS with no issue. Installed Bitcoin Knots and IBD completed in 33.5 hours.
