Nextcloud update kicked me out. Can’t log back in

This is largely a reflection of my lack of technical expertise, I’m sure.

I’ve been running next cloud for a couple years on my Start9 server. I back up my devices periodically.

I went to backup this morning and I’m no longer logged in. Admin credentials from my server do not work. I do not recall changing my username or password on NC, but I might have at some point. :person_shrugging:

Regardless my efforts to get into NC or reset my password have been unsuccessful.

Is there someway to access my user credentials from the Start9 server?

Talk to me like I’m 7 years old. Thanks!

Not being able to log in could be many things… and in your case it’s not a password issue, so what does it actually say? Your server will tell you what you can and can’t do based on the error messages. To get help, you’d need to tell us what those error messages say.

What happens when you hard refresh the browser?

Ctrl + Shift + R (Win/Lin)
Cmd + Shift + R (Mac)

Man. Thanks for your time. I was using “admin” as specified in the properties instead of “embassy”. I’m in on my start9 now. About to see if I can get back in the apps.

I’m still having issues with iOS apps for whatever reason.

Sometimes the easiest way forward is to go back first. Get rid of it, then go through the guide again slowly from the beginning.

I’ve done that on my iPad and it’s showing the “file is empty”. The app on my iPhone tells me that the “Internet connection appears to be offline”. Which it isn’t. Because I’m accessing the Start9 server from the same phone to attempt to setup. I’ve read about clearing the cache in the app helping with the file is empty error. It did not resolve that issue. I can’t get that far on the iPhone. This setup worked well for me for a couple years. I’m clueless as to why it isn’t working anymore.

Please help me better understand where we are at this point. Reading through the conversation it appears you were able to solve the original issue, using the correct username. But now you are having trouble setting up NC on your iPad? Are you connecting this iPad to NC for the first time?

Hi rexter.

No I’ve had this setup working for close to a couple of years, backing up my devices to the start9 server via next cloud app.

When I attempted to back up earlier this week, it had logged me out of Nextcloud. Hence my original post. I got that resolved with Embassy user name instead of admin. Web based access to Nextcloud allows me to access my files.

I was able to log back in from my iPad. However it is not seeing any files that are hosted. The app on my iPhone is telling me that it is not connected to the internet when I enter my server’s web address into the box that takes me to the login screen.

Does this help?

I think I understand. Are you currently able to use the NC app, on any other devices successfully?

No sir. These are the only two mobile devices I try to back up. They worked fine until, I’m guessing, a Nextcloud update logged me out. I’ve got the latest version of the apps and iOS on my devices.

What step, in the guide Stuart pointed to, are you stuck at?

  1. Enter your LAN address under “Server Address” and tap “Next”.

When I enter the lan address, the “device not connected to the internet” error I posted above on my iPhone.

My iPad has gone through the full setup but isn’t seeing files.

Let’s focus on one at a time. I don’t understand. Step 1 is install the app. The screen shot is on step 4.

Step 4 is where the issue is. Cutting and pasting while sitting the tire shop on my phone. Sorry.

When I enter my LAN address into the app, I get this error.

Are you expecting to be able to access your LAN from a tire shop? Is the tire shop in or next to your house?

No, sir. I was copy and pasting from the guide to answer the question asked about where I’m getting hung up.

This “no internet” issue happens at home, on my network.

So this lack of internet connection happens when Orbot is connected and despite other applications on your phone able to be turned on?

Can you open a .onion with Safari?

Yes. Web browser access is fine from both devices. Internet to the phone and other apps are fine. I’m in the start 9 from via lan copying the address into the app. When I click next, the app tells me there is no internet.

I was able to log in and grant access from the iPad, but it is not seeing files stored on the server.

And when you access the .local web UI of Nextcloud, via Safari on LAN, that works?

Yessir. That works fine.
